President, Maurice Costello, writes:
This is my first season as President and I am looking forward to competitive bowls played in a good spirit. I ask that all members support the Club Captain and Team Captains by making yourself available to play and if not picked for one match then come forward for the next. We have a full season of league games, Guinness Cup, Interleague and the County President’s day at our club. Your help will be needed to ensure successful days.

Message from the Chairman: Viv Sword

Here we are just a few short weeks from the start of another bowling season! A number of members are involved in the many preparatory tasks required to make sure the green and the clubhouse are ‘fit for purpose’ – a few more volunteers would be very welcome, and anyone who feels they could spare a few hours to help out, should contact either David Gort (Greenkeeper) or John Foulger (Asset Manager). There have been changes to the Club Committee and, as a new chairman, I am delighted that the new appointees have shown such enthusiasm and commitment. It is unfortunate that we are still without a Bar Chairman – particularly in view of the refurbishment taking place. Once again, we have to thank Preston and Anthony for giving many hours of their time to carry out this work – I am sure you will all be impressed by the new bar when it is completed.

Over the ‘closed’ season we have had a number of social events, all of which have helped to raise money for the club. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been involved in the organising of these events, and to members, who have shown their support by attending. I hope this coming season will be successful and enjoyable and I look forward to seeing all of you over the
coming months.

Sandy Sargeant: Club Captain
As you know, David Maycock, unfortunately stood down as Club Captain this year, so I have very big boots to follow. I will do my best to fill them.
Bowls will soon be in full swing and let’s hope we can take St Botolph’s to success and most of all harmony throughout the club.
I wish all teams well in the coming season and I look forward to being your club captain.
Welcome to any new members and if anyone does not know me, I’m the very skinny one!

After much discussion, the Committee has decided that the St. Botolph’s Shield (rather than a drawing of a monk) would be a more modern logo on shirts and badges. The shield is used by both the church and school with the same name. This does NOT mean that members have to purchase new shirts as both the old and new logos are acceptable.
The 'monk’ has served the Club well for many years and, whilst the Committee voted unanimously for the change, they acknowledged the fact that many longer standing members of the Club would be sad at his demise.
